點亮大溪故事計畫
The Plan of illuminating a story of Daxi
Lighting a lamp is like illuminating a story of Taoyuan Daxi(大溪).
The century-old well on Zhongshan Road, the historic building KENSEI SHOCO(建成商行), and the Taoyuan
Bus Daxi Station(桃園大溪客運總站) all hold deep historical meaning for the people of Daxi.
By illustrating the past and present of these three locations and presenting them in the form of lightboxes,
they quietly appear on the corners of Daxi’s streets.
They add new, shimmering landmarks to Daxi’s nighttime scenery.
Taoyuan Bus Daxi Station(桃園大溪客運總站)
The Starting Point of Transportation in Daxi
Flourishing along the Dahan River and supported by its abundant local industries, Daxi became the
birthplace of Taoyuan’s first light rail line and its first bus route.
With a history spanning over a century, it remains an essential mode of transportation, continuing to
carry countless travelers through the town.
KENSEI SHOCO(建成商行)
A Glimpse into Daxi’s Former Glory
Behind these ornate buildings lies the rise of a groundbreaking commercial empire.
KENSEI SHOCO(建成商行) was founded by Jian A-Niu, a prominent figure in Daxi’s early camphor and coal
industries.
As this legendary figure passed and his vast enterprise faded, only the grand archway remained—quietly
preserving the town’s memories and allowing visitors to imagine the splendor of its past.

Gathering Emotions and Memories
In the past, the people of Daxi relied on well water for their daily needs.
Carrying buckets to draw water and wash clothes, residents gradually wove their emotions and connections
together—drop by drop—around this communal space.
Today, the well has become an important site for visitors to learn about and experience Daxi’s unique
water culture, continuing the memory that once gathered life and warmth here.
